Swastikas in Bundaberg
Swastikas and racist slogans have been daubed in several locations including a welcome sign in the Queensland town of Bundaberg.
Dr Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC said: “We decry in the strongest terms this sickening incident of racism which should offend and shock all Australians. The escalation in these threatening incidents, which traumatise the victims and create a climate of fear, remind us that intolerance in our community is on the rise, and that the need for educational programs that challenge this destructive virus, such as the ADC’s Click Against Hate, is critical.
The message that must be conveyed by leaders across the political and religious spectrum is that those who seek to spread division and sow the seeds of hatred will not succeed. We must all do everything that is possible to combat all expressions of bigotry and declaim in one voice that such ugliness will never find a home in Australia. Anyone who has information about the perpetrators of this odious act is encouraged to contact QLD police, and it is our hope that once those responsible are arrested and are prosecuted to the full extent of the law”
The president of the Queensland Jewish Board of Deputies Jason Steinberg told J-Wire: “The Queensland Jewish community finds it abhorrent that Nazi symbols and racist slogans would be used to deface a welcome sign and elsewhere.
Queensland is a very multicultural society where tolerance and acceptance is the norm.
Nazi symbols have no place in Queensland and should be abhorred by everyone.”
