A collaboration between Jewish Care and Access Inc. is streamlining job-seeking and employability training for people in the Melbourne Jewish community living with cognitive disabilities.

Jewish Care Employment and Education Centre staff and participants in the Jewish Care/Access Inc. course.

The new course is delivered in three phases. Bookended by initial employability skills training and ongoing job seeking support provided by Jewish Care, participants complete barista training with Access Inc. that provides opportunities to learn and apply a range of new practical skills that may lead to future employment.

Sharon Malecki, CEO of Access Inc. stated, “At Access, we are passionate about partnering with young adults with disabilities in our community to help them achieve their goals in areas that are important to us all. We are excited to be working with Jewish Care’s Employment and Education Centre to create a pathway that reduces barriers to employment and creates greater opportunities for success.”

As explained by Simon Jedwab, Manager of Jewish Care’s Employment and Education Centre, “Through this program, we have developed a framework that supports job seekers living with cognitive disabilities that we believe can be applied to a variety of skills beyond barista or hospitality training.”

Jewish Care has received funding from the Adult, Community and Further Education Board to assist in developing this model which strives to provide intensive support to job seekers living with cognitive disabilities.

Jewish Care’s Employment and Education Centre is seeking expressions of interest from people excited to participate in this program.  If you or someone you know is interested in participating, contact the Jewish Care Employment and Education Centre on 03 8517 5999.
