Over 180 people attended the event to show support and commitment to people living with a disability in our community and beyond.

Parliamentarians and dignitaries included the Member for Caulfield, David Southwick MLA, Glen Eira Mayor, Councillor Neil Pilling and the Victorian Multicultural Commissioner Marion Lau OAM JP.

From Israeli and Flamenco dancing to face painting, performances, arts and prizes, it was a great day of community spirit, fun and joy.

Jewish Care President, Mike Debinski, delivered an emotional speech highlighting the achievements of people living with a disability.

“Disability isn’t a matter of choice. Some people are born with chronic conditions while others acquire disability through unexpected illnesses, accidents or as a result of ageing. Almost 20% of Australians live with a disability,” said Mr Debinski. “But just like everyone else, people with a disability deserve to access quality health and community services, and explore a scope of opportunities for self-development and socialisation.”

Talking of new developments, CEO Bill Appleby said: “Following extensive community consultation, Jewish Care is about to launch its aspirational 5 Year Disability Plan. This plan will focus on the active growth of person-centred services for people with a disability and their families, while optimising the opportunities within the National Disability Insurance Scheme.  And we are sure that together we can make a world of difference and build a socially inclusive Victorian Jewish community for all.”

“The atmosphere was so uplifting and inspiring which is hard to put into words,” said Shashi Kant Kochhar JP, Monash Disability Committee Member. “It was also a wonderful opportunity to learn more about Jewish Care’s support for community members living with a disability and their families.”
