Southwick calls for increase in school security support
Liberal State MP David Southwick believes the Victorian State Budget 2016-17 appears to have set aside no security funding for Jewish schools or the Community Security Group (CSG).

In a statement released today Southwick says that the former Coalition Government delivered $120,000 funding for the CSG to train volunteers to keep the Jewish community safe.`
He add that in further disappointing news, Labor’s budget shows that state taxes have jumped by $3.7 billion or 20.7% in just two years.
Southwick’s release states that there is no money in this budget to re-open the police stations that have been closed under Daniel Andrews, nor is there enough money for the frontline police Victoria’s growing population desperately need.
Southwick State Member for Caulfield said that it was disappointing that despite the crime rate in Victoria increasing 8.1% in the past year and soaring 21.36% locally in the City of Glen Eira, that the Labor Government had no response in the budget.
“The Jewish community deserve to feel safe in their homes and on our streets,” Mr Southwick said.
“Daniel Andrews has raked in an extra $3.7 billion in taxes but is ignoring the reality that crime is on the rise.
“The Coalition recognises the CSG’s great work and the outstanding education provided by our Jewish schools, but they need support for training to deal with potential emergency situations.”
