South Head’s period of serenity

Over the last six weeks we have noticed a beautiful calm serenity in shul on Friday night.

The Chazan has put all his energy into singing the songs and making the service so enjoyable. Everyone sings along and the ruach is great. On Shabbat morning even though I am part of the ladies guild I have gone into shul to hear Avinu sebashamayim being sung and personally cried, whilst seeing others  also  emotional.  Why we weren’t allowed to have this sung before because 1 person said no is ridiculous. We also found it interesting and refreshing to have different speakers each week and the speakers seemed to enjoy  speaking to the kehilla. When the kehilla came down to the hall for the kiddush after shul everyone was so relaxed , appreciative and thankful. Many people helped to clear up, which hasn’t happened in the past,  just showing the camaraderie and togetherness. No-one rushed home. People stayed to chat and chat and chat. Rabbi Benjy Simons  shiurim were very well attended and enjoyed by all.

We would be devastated if this was to change or G-d forbid to end.

The last few weeks have shown how the kehilla have pulled together as a union sharing shabbat with their friends and families, as a community shul should. That is due to many people returning to Our beloved South Head Shul, especially some younger families who havent been there for a while. This is unlike anything we have experienced over the last few years .

May Hashem bless our community that it should continue to grow and thrive as it has over the past few weeks.
