The creditors’ meeting of the cash-strapped Sydney’s South Head Synagogue has been postponed for one week as discussions continue to break the impasse between the shul and its spiritual leader.

The building was locked up by the administrators on Wednesday ahead of today’s creditors’ meeting. The creditors have acceded to a request by interested parties who believe there remains a possibility to resolve the dispute which could force the 48-yr-old congregation’s synagogue into liquidation.

The creditors have instructed to stall the creditor’s meeting for seven days as discussions continue.

In the meantime, the shule will remain shut and the Dover Minyan continue to operate in Moriah College’s  Rose Bay Hamakom Campus.

Rabbi Benzion Milecki’s employment was terminated by the administrator, a move which was reversed by Sydney’s Supreme Court which found it to be “void”.

A special Beth Din in Jerusalem served an injunction to block any action which “could lead to the destruction” of the South Head Synagogue.

How much longer will this impasse go on ? Perhaps the North Korean nuclear crisis will be resolved before South Head shul reopens

  2. Judy Maynard says:

Correction: the congregation commenced in 1948.
