South Africa commits to Maccabi Games

South Africa will send a team to the Maccabi Australia International Games next year.

With this breaking news there will sure to be a whole lots of “Howzits” ‘happening on Sydney streets come 26th December 2010. There will also certainly be a host of invitations to backyard barbecues…yes the traditional South African “braai” will be in force. Maccabi Australia International Games, “MAIGS” is pleased to announce that the South Africans have confirmed they will be coming Down Under.

MAIGS chairman Jeff Houseman said: “We have received confirmation that a steering committee has been formed to ensure that an extremely strong, competitive and large contingent will participant in these Games.”

Other countries that have confirmed their attendance are: USA, Canada, Azerbaijan and Israel. Jeff has also been in contact with England, Argentina, Scotland, Brazil, Mexico and Venezuela reporting “I feel confident that most if not all these countries will participate in this world event.”

Sports planned inclue: Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Cycling (maybe), Football, Futsal, Golf, Hockey, Judo, Lawn Bowls, Karate, Netball, Ocean Swimming, Softball, Squash, Swimming, Table Tennis, Ten Pin Bowling, Tennis, Triathlon, Volleyball, Water Polo.

Jeff added: “If you would like to see cycling as a sport please register your interest at maig2010@maccabi.com.au. We would love to see the creation of a Maccabi NSW cycling Club so the more interest the more chance of this happening. Maccabi Victoria has recently set up a Club and already has 80 members so NSW needs to follow suit and get moving!”

This event is open to males and females in three categories: Youth born 1992/1993, Open and Masters.

A dinner to launch this great event will take place on February 14th 2010, yes Valentine’s Day,  at Darling Harbour. Each Maccabi Club will be expected to host a table of 10 (minimum) to represent their sport at this event. Heads of Delegation from representing countries will be present.
