Slavins help the IDF
Sydney’s Our Big Kitchen Slavin family is in Israel working in temporary barracks in the car park of a movie theatre…without their patriarch Rabbi Dovid Slavin.

Under pressure to fulfil timeframe conditions applying to a government grant to build a security wall outside the Flood St Bondi Yeshiva, Rabbi Slavin could not attend his brother’s child’s wedding in Israel last week.

But on Monday his wife Rebbetzin Laya Slavin decided that she would make a last minute booking for herself and six of her children to attend the simcha.
When Operation Protective Edge got underway Laya Slavin asked fellow Chabbadnik Menachem Kutner if there was anything she could do to help. Aware of the family’s experience at Our Big Kitchen, Kutner made arrangements for the Slavin clan to travel to a cinema’s car park had been transformed into a holding depot for IDF reservists.
Following Wednesday’s wedding, the Slavins are now busy using their OBK knowledge to contribute to the smooth running of the new facility.
Rabbi Dovid Slavin told J-Wire: “I am busy on a building site ensuring that we fulfil all the necessary compliances required by the Federal Government but it a lovely feeling to know that my family is doing something not only useful in Israel but also contributing with realtime knowledge of what they are doing. My son Mordechai has also joined them from Caracas.”
The Slavins will stay in Israel until the end of the month.
