Simulating homelessness
Last June, Sydney’s Jewish House hosted 85 students from 8 different private and public schools both private and public from the Eastern and Northern Suburbs who slept out in open air enabling them to experience what it feels like to be homeless is all about and appreciate firsthand the challenges involved.
Next month, students from years 8-12 are invited to experience 1 night of homelessness. Sleeping out under the stars will enable them to sample what being homeless is all about and appreciate first-hand the challenges of being homeless. Our event allows the youth to experience this disadvantage in a covered and secure environment.
S.O.S. [Students on the Streets]empowers our youth to make a difference to the silent sufferers amongst us.
The event schools that participate are Moriah, Emanuel, Reddam, Masada, Academy BJE as well as the youth movements of Bnei Akiva, Netzer, Habonin. On April 30, we launched the video and website to enable each student to register and fundraising money from their family, friends and community who will sponsor them to sleep out, simulating a night of homelessness.
