Melbourne Jewish actress Taylor Klas (aka Galit Klas) won Best Actress at the Short+Sweet Sydney 2012 festival gala awards final…and shared the Best Script prize.

Her one-woman musical piece, “Joanne’s Real World” – co-written with Jamie Burgess and Cerise de Gelder, also from Melbourne – also won best script of the festival. The work is a 10 minute cabaret about a woman who works at Centrelink and sings her bigotted frustration at all the ‘dole bludgers’ that walk through her door (she especially hates artists!). In Joanne’s world, following a dream is a waste of taxpayers’ money. Why should they be any different from her? Then again, maybe they’re not…
She won week 7 of the three month long festival with the play and  qualified for the final. More than 180 ten-minute plays – chosen from more than 1500 entres – featured in the festival.
Taylor has played lead roles in Fiddler on the Roof (CLOC), Milk and Honey (Magnormos) and the White Door (La Mama) and won the Wildcard section of last year’s Melbourne Short+Sweet Cabaret festival.
