Years 11 and 12 students from schools across Sydney and country NSW came together for a weekend that offered them an opportunity to develop leadership skills which will not only benefit their own development, but also benefit the Jewish community. Many of these students who come from a range of religious/national backgrounds often receive minimal Jewish education, and so this weekend exposed them to an insight into Shabbat, a taste of Jewish knowledge, an awareness of Israel, and a desire to learn more about their Jewish identity and continue to be involved members of the Jewish community.

Dina Barukh, Year 12 at Rose Bay Secondary College commented, “I liked how we learnt about different Jewish and secular leaders, and talked about our own leadership skills….we all learnt from each other.”

Isaac Tyler, Year 11, Tempe High School said, “The weekend exceeded my expectations. By observing how the madrichim act around us (the chanichim), I have learnt a different and even better way to lead and teach students.”

So that your children don’t miss out on all the exciting events that Academy BJE organise, and just to be in the loop, make sure they have joined our Facebook page – www.facebook.com/kangajewjsn

The event was a resounding success.
