This week is National Carers Week and a recently-established service matching the right carer with those in need of one has been set up in Sydney.

Sydney sisters Marissa Sandler and Lauren Hockley are the women behind Careseekers a company making its mark in the care industry by helping carers cut through the complication and emotion of providing care for loved ones through a simple, innovative and highly cost-effective solution.

Both women witnessed the trials and tribulations experienced by their grandmother as their family sought the right type of care she needed.

Since launching in May 2015, Careseekers has been successfully connecting carers with individuals wanting in-home care for loved ones or themselves through a unique, online matching service. A major focus has been supporting families to keep ageing parents in their homes.

The service is based in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs and the company is very familiar with the the needs of Jewish members of the community in need of care.

From AirBNB to Alibaba and Amazon to Uber, digital disruption and online marketplaces are no longer a new phenomenon, but this marks the first time Australia’s personal care industry has seen the benefits of the nimble, personalised and simple solution that Careseekers can offer.

“Our Concierge Service is the only in-home care service in Australia of its kind. It recognises that for some people it is incredibly important to maintain a personal, human connection when finding a carer and delivers this in a cost-effective way” says Marissa Sandler, co-founder of Careseekers.

“For those who are more tech savvy we offer a complete online service that allows people access to our database of hundreds of qualified, experienced and background-checked carers.”

Members can hand-pick their match, are not subject to a minimum time commitment and are charged roughly half of what they would pay in traditional models.

Lauren Hockley said: “Since launching we have had the privilege of helping many families find carers for someone they love. Through this process we have been blown away at the selfless commitment of many children to their elderly parents.

“Our service is being used as a way to give much-needed respite to children, spouses, relatives and friends. Sometimes just a few hours a week is all that is needed to lessen the load for the primary carer.”

True to its ethos of supporting both recipients of care and their carers, Careseekers is celebrating Carer’s Week in October by rewarding families who have caring responsibilities with some well-deserved special recognition:
