Respite centre for Melbourne

Melbourne’s Jewish Care will open the Coppel and Piekarski Family Disability Respite Centre in December.

Families will be able to benefit from respite, carer support and community outreach services for both children and adults.

The Centre at 476 Glen Eira Road, Caulfield, will showcase the latest in style and innovation and its unique architectural design will cater for up to five children and five adults in separate and secure wings.

It is scheduled to open in December.

Key features will include purpose-built playgrounds with a Liberty swing, sensory rooms and gardens for children and teenagers to foster learning and development; the community hub will run carer support, outreach and training programs and social and recreational activities organised on site and within the community.

 

Zalman Feiglin has been coming for respite since the age of 6 and he talks about how it has helped him to become more independent. His parents Michelle and Yitzchak explain the importance respite gives to the rest of the family to have a break from full-time care.

The centre will provide a place where families like the Feiglins will be able to benefit from respite, carer support and community outreach services for children and adults.
