120 people have nominated as General Franchise deputies on the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies…a record number.

NSWJBD290logo75 places are available, and members of the Board of Deputies will cast their ballots by post over the next fortnight.

The highest number previously received was 95 nominations during the last election two years ago.

“The 120 nominees include a number of young adults, older community members, men, women and just about every other demographic eligible to nominate. They come from the left, right and centre and are orthodox, progressive and non affiliated” said Board of Deputies President Yair Miller. “This is the unique strength of our organisation and what makes us truly representative.”

“We are delighted at the tremendous interest shown by the community – and particularly by young adults – in signing up to stand as deputies,” CEO Vic Alhadeff said.

“It clearly demonstrates an awareness and recognition of the vital work being done by the Board of Deputies across a broad spectrum of areas, from combatting antisemitism and generating understanding of Israel in the public discourse to bridge-building with key sectors and working within the political arena. All these activities and so many more are conducted as part of the Board’s strategy of advancing social harmony through the prism of the Jewish experience.”

The results of the elections will be announced at the plenum meeting on Tuesday evening November 19.

Apart from General Franchise deputies, the 61 organisations which are constituent members of the Board of Deputies also have representatives at the Board of Deputies, serving as Constituent Deputies.

    Sorry, but not impressed.
    Let’s do a bit of maths;
NSW has some 28,000 Jews, most of them in Sydney.
120 out of 28,000 comes to what ?!! Did I hear “tremendous” and some other superlatives !! Do I hear “harmony”, no less created by the same tremendous interest shown by that harmony dedicated little – and I mean it – NIF communal irritant right in the heart of the Board !! Records will also show that the 61 afiliated organisations in NSW used to be much closer to 75, but that was BEFORE the tremendous achievements, as seen above.
Mr . Vic and Mr Yair I always enjoyed exchaging pleasantries with yourse guys because you are really, really funny blokes and so am I, me presumes. Question is who is taking whose Mick out of whom !!?

    • Otto Waldmann says:

      Correction

There are some 44,000 Jews in NSW !!!!

I knew that I was right, but not THAT RIGHT !!!

Otto, accepting your numbers, the nominees represent close to 0.3% of our community. That in itself is not at all bad. The concerns are (a) how many of the newly elected deputies will take their roles seriously and make appearances at plenums and (b) how many of those nominating are genuinely concerned about Jewry and how many are nominating to further skew the Board towards their appeasement cum anti-Zionist agendas?

      • Otto Waldmann says:

Paul, my dear friend, how can I argue , of all people, on numbers with you !!!! Yet 0.3% is laughable for an “umbrella” organisation. If instead of “umbrella” they would call it ” cigatte holder” or “lighter” or “one sock” or any piece of insignificant shmate I would agree. But, edes apam, it is supposed to be an “umbrella”. So, what sort of umbrella can 0.3% be ?! The only one that comes to mind is the cute and colourful umbrella you stick onto an olive and dip into a glass of Margueritta.
Otherwise, judging by the monthly instalments already viewed for donkeys at the plenums, you are bloody right. Incidentally, the anti Zionist agenda is working perfectly because the main purpose they have is that the Board should not be working at all !!!!
