Sydney-based Rabbi Yehoram Ulman has sent J-Wire a statement following a Supreme Court  decision that a Beth Din ruling was biased…

Rabbi Yehoram Ulman

In relation to the setting aside by the Supreme Court of a Zablo ruling to which I was party , I make the following four points
1.    Based upon the evidence  brought to light during the Supreme Court proceedings I have formally withdrawn my original psak din and have communicated this withdrawal to the parties.

2.    It is inappropriate for me to make any comment about the conduct of the judges and I shall therefore refrain from doing so, both to the media and in my communications generally.

3.    While the  outcome of this Arbitration was far from satisfactory and whilst I have learned  many lessons from it, one should not lose sight of the countless successful rabbinic arbitrations that take place each year both in Sydney and Melbourne and which are of the highest standard. Sadly it is the unfortunate exception that the media deems newsworthy, whilst so many successful arbitrations remain confidential and go unpublicised.

4.    It is most unfortunate that in some of the newspaper reports, aspects of the proceedings concerning my own involvement have been taken out of context and reports as to motives that were represented as mine were quite misleading.
