A man screaming rants at a rabbi at the Adass synagogue in Melbourne got more than he bargained for when his ranting turned physical.

A congregant at the shul where they had been davening Mincha videoed the incident in which Rabbi Yoni Lowin took on his attacker and took the footage to the nearby IDF Training School which teaches self-defence using Israeli techniques.

The IDF Training School’s Avi Yemini told J-Wire: “We didn’t train Rabbi Lowin in Krav Maga but he instinctively used techniques we teach. He’s a natural. Others would have crumbled in that situation.”

Posting the video on their Facebook page IDF Training wrote: “Respect to the Rabbi for the perfect application of  IDF Training techniques.” The video has gone viral.

Yemini added: “As the attack unfolded, one of my 15-year-old students who was at the scene intervened and helped constrain the assailant.”

Jennifer Huppert, President of the Jewish Community Council of Victoria (JCCV) stated, “From discussions with Victoria Police we understand that the incident was criminally motivated, and that the individual involved in the incident has been charged.”

“Even if incident was criminally motivated, we are seriously concerned that the person involved used anti-semitic slurs.”

“The JCCV deplores all forms of violence and hatred, especially the threatening and appalling behaviour shown on the video. This is not behaviour we expect or can accept in Australia.”

Dr. Dvir Abramovich, Chairman of the ADC, said: “We are terribly disturbed by this alarming antisemitic outburst and assault. It is appalling that  any member of the Jewish community had to endure this terrifying racial  abuse and physical attack outside a house of worship..Australian of all faiths, nationalities, and ethnicities should feel secure without the fear or threat of being targeted for abuse because of their religion.

Such abhorrent incidents have a damaging and searing impact on the victims and on the community affected. We congratulate the police for arresting and charging the alleged perpetrator. There is there is absolutely no room in our country for such hateful conduct and our community will not stand for such violence.”

I’d be surprised he if he is of Aboriginal descent with a spirituality of their own that doesn’t refer to Allah and by now should be confirmed. Whatever he is he certainly sounded intoxicated not that it could be and excuse.

  2. Henry Herzog says:

But Dvir, I don’t think they suffered any trauma; after two thousand years it’s become part of our DNA. I reckon those guys went to sleep last night feeling very proud of themselves knowing they can defend themselves against such creeps.

  3. David Adler says:

At 23 sec, the rant goes “Do you want to swear to Allah” repeatedly. The guy had said he was Aboriginal. Anyone else find it both disturbing and puzzling that some Aborigines will abandon their ancient rich cultural beliefs to convert to Islam? From his aggressive demeanour, it raises the possibility this guy was converted in prison.
Prisons world wide have been rich recruiting sites for dawah (bringing into Islam) and of course the new set of values and teachings of such converts includes Islamic anti-Semitism.

  4. Henry Herzog says:

Go Rav, and the others who stood their ground, you’ve done us proud. And the p—ck claimed to be an Aborigine; what an insult to our Indeginous people.
