Prosecutors want Bail Revoked
A former security guard at the Yeshivah College in East St Kilda who has been charged with multiple sex offences is facing court in Melbourne today as prosecutors apply to have his bail revoked.
David Cyprys, 43, was spotted with children “on the streets’ during the recent Jewish holidays….an alleged breach of his bail conditions.
Cyprys is banned from having contact with any children under the age of 16 including his own and those of his partner unless supervised.
The decision to revoke his bail is expected today.
He has been charged with 29 counts of indecent assault and gross indecency relating to his time at the Yeshivah College.
According to “The Age”, Cyprys’s lawyer told the court he had witnesses who could account for his client’s whereabouts between 10 a.m. and midnight on the day in question.
A court official told J-Wire that a suppression order had been made regarding the case and no further information is available at this time.
But J-Wire has since learned that the suppression order relates only to Cyprys’s own children. According to reports in “The Age”, one witness who saw Cyprys with children on October 13, the first day of Sukkot,was Adam Wright, the personal bodyguard of mining magnate Joseph Gutnick. Wright told the court that Gutnick, a member of the Yeshivah community, had been aware of “alleged misconduct” by Cyprys in 2003 and that he [Gutnick] did not want his own children around Cyprys. Allegations about Cyprys were already circulating in the ultra-orthodox community.
Magistrate Luisa Bazzani refused the application to revoke bail. The court was told that Cyprys, who is not allowed within 100 meters of a school, had been attending services at the Elwood Talmud Torah synagogue attached to the school.
She amended bail conditions to allow him to attend the synagogue, but only on days on which the school was not operating.
