Victorian police made dawn raids on the home of five protesters who had breached bail conditions when protesting at the Max Brenner Chocolate store in the Melbourne Central shopping centre on July 29.

Four protesters appeared on court today. Police are looking for the fifth.

The Jewish Community Council of Victoria president John Searle told J-Wire: “The five are members of the Max Brenner 19…those arrested by police during an earlier BDS demonstration on July 1. Their bail conditions were prohibiting them from going within 50m of the Max Brenner store unless they were going to the nearby station or a nearby medical centre.”

J-Wire understands that the five were shielded from police during the July 29 demonstration and that the police made a decision not to attempt to arrest them at that time. Reports say that bail conditions for the four will be increased to $2000 with one protester’s bail amount being fixed at $10,000.

Stan, do you really think you are furthering your cause by calling for three year’s jail for a non-violent protest? All these protesters did was to attend one protest, get arrested and charged with an obscure law (“besetting” – ever heard of it?) and then, against court orders, attend another. There was no damage done to people or property.

australia is becoming more and more like israel – no dissent permitted

  3. Stan says:

A clear case of contempt of court. They should be jailed without further ado. Three years sounds fair.
