YJLM and Young JBD have teamed up again for another major event, announcing a Purim soiree for Jewish 20s and 30s, “The Great Gatsby Purim Party”  at the renowned “Blue Diamond” rooftop lounge, near Little Collins Street, offering spectacular views of Melbourne’s skyline.

“The venue reminded me of The Gramercy Park Hotel’s rooftop lounge, my favourite drinks venue near my old apartment in Manhattan, and it has that “Prohibition” vibe perfect for our theme”, said Silver.

The Great Gatsby Purim Party will take place March 13th, and tickets are available online from http://www.gatsbypurim.eventbrite.com.

The Young Jewish Leadership of Melbourne (YJLM) and Young JBD recently held their first sell-out event “Cocktails In the City”, at The Spice Market. A large crowd of 20- and 30-somethings came to the event with no expectations, and left satisfied that something new and fresh had arrived in Melbourne.

Guests enjoyed gourmet canapés and designer cocktails amongst the luxurious décor of the venue’s VIP area, while listening to the success story of young Jewish entrepreneur, the Executive Chairman of sass and bide, David Briskin.

The crowd enjoyed a night of socialising, networking, and gained inspiration by a man who shared his personal story of leaving his career at a law firm behind to follow his passion, something many adults dream of but only few achieve successfully.

Gaby and Ilana Silver, while relatively new to Melbourne, are not new to the young adult scene. Overseas they organised large-scale parties and events for Jewish 20’s and 30’s to sell-out crowds through their US division, YJLUC.

“We wanted to create something for Melbourne Jewish young adults that was creative and different,” YJLM Co-Director Ilana Silver explained.

“Living in Manhattan in my mid-20s, I was exposed to outstanding cutting-edge events, with some of the most famous speakers in the world at my fingertips. Young people want to hear their stories, get inspired, and gain something from their night out beyond just drinks and parties.”

One of the event attendees, Romy Kessler, was asked about her impressions of the event, and she shared: “The night was amazing, the speaker was really interesting and I met so many great people there. It was definitely a night not to be missed, and I can’t wait for their next one.”

Or Avi-Guy shared similar sentiments: “Cocktails In the City was definitely a successful event. The turnout was very impressive, the venue, food and drinks were top-notch and the atmosphere was very elegant, and friendly.”

David Werdiger, President of www.jbd.org.au, also sees the importance of creating quality events for young Jews in Melbourne: “A lot of what we do in both JBD and in Australian Jewish Funders and AJF Innovation is about engaging the next generation. The Gen08 research made it clear: the more connection points to Jewishness, the more continuity. I’m pleased to see the huge activity in this space, and creating collaborations between like-minded organisations is especially important”.
