SJYE maintains a repertoire that spans genres but always pays homage either to a Jewish composer, biblical story or music from Israel.  Through this repertoire, SJYE intends to expose the Jewish community to a wider range of Jewish music, as well as broaden the perception of what Jewish music is and can be.

The Sydney Jewish Youth Ensemble is currently searching for young Jewish kids, aged 12-19, who can sing. With exciting music lined up, including Gershwin and Idan Raichel, SJYE’s first ensemble in 2012 will be a vocal ensemble. The initial intention of SJYE is to create a diverse group of young Jewish kids that can represent the Sydney Jewish community to perform at communal functions, showing older generations that the strong tradition of Jewish music will not be lost. SJYE also aims to provide a forum for Jewish youth to interact with others outside of their school and to be a part of a music ensemble, where team work and a sense of community will be both promoted and practiced.

SJYE is founded and led by Natan Kuchar, an incredibly passionate music director, who has worked with many youth ensembles internationally and believes very strongly in group music education. He received a Bachelor of Music from Berklee College of Music and currently conducts several ensembles in the Sydney area. SJYE will provide its vocalists with a high level of music training in an informal environment. Rather than placing one solo vocalist in the spotlight, the entire ensemble will be at the forefront, showcasing the significance of a group of people making music together. In the future, SJYE desires to expand to include an instrumental ensemble.

The Sydney Jewish Youth Ensemble is about music that really comes together — Jewish youth coming together, Jewish music sung together and Jewish audiences listening together.

Auditions for the SJYE will be held on Sunday March 25th. In order to register, an audition registration form must be completed online at facebook.com/SydneyJewishYouthEnsemble. More information can also be found on our Facebook page.
