ANOTHER MEDICAL FIRST
Two women who were told they’d never have full ankle movement again following accidents they each suffered are the first Israeli recipients of 3D-printed ankle bones that will allow them to move freely.
Thanks to 3D printing and medical technology, as well as leading doctors from the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology at Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva (also known as the Rabin Medical Center), the two women, one of them a teen, underwent the country’s first (and second) talus replacement through 3D printing surgeries.
Before this revolutionary technology, those who had severe ankle accidents could remain virtually immobilized for life.
TOP UNIVERSITIES
Four Israeli universities are ranked among the top 50 undergraduate programs globally that produce the most VC-backed entrepreneurs, according to the latest ranking by PitchBook.
Tel Aviv (8), Technion-Israel Institute of Technology (14), The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (34), and Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (49) were the four Israeli universities that made it into the ranking.
After the US, Israel was the nation with the most universities ranked in the top 50. Canada had two and the UK, with Trinity College, one.
NO MORE DISH WASHING
An Israeli startup is developing edible savory salad bowls and sweet cereal bowls. Incredibowl creates edible tableware which can replace most disposable products and can be eaten whole or discarded in compost. These made-in-Israel products are tasty, fun, sturdy and suitable for various kinds of food and beverages. They reduce the consumption of single-use plastics as well as the need for washing dishes.
The first product available for sale (only in Israel, for now) is Starcups, which have a gummy-bear consistency and taste sweet, so they are great for alcoholic drinks or desserts. The cereal bowls still to come are made of cookie dough covered in chocolate (!) and will be available in a semi-sweet beet flavor, Oreo or regular cookie-dough flavor.
The savory salad bowls are made of cracker-like dough and will come in salty, paprika or za’atar flavors. Truly Israeli.
The products are kosher and will come in lactose-, egg- and gluten-free varieties, so everyone can enjoy saving the planet while snacking away.
