With the international media in full flow presenting distorted news about developments in Israel here is an opportunity to learn about some positive developments not likely to hit the headlines in your local news media.

JUST IN TIME FOR SHAVUOT

The food associated with this Festival is traditionally dairy. It may not be high tech but dairy products are also an important foreign currency earner.

An analysis by the Israel Export Institute’s Economy Department showed that Israel’s export of dairy products in 2017 rose 21% from that of 2016, bringing in a total of $21 million. This trend continued in the first quarter of 2018, with January-March 2018 showing a 10% increase in dairy exports in comparison to the same period the previous year. During those three months, dairy exports brought $5.6 million to the Israeli economy.

Israel boasts more than 1,000 locally made dairy products and the world’s largest selection of soft, spreadable white cheeses, according to the Israel Dairy Board.

125,000 milking cows of the Israeli Holstein breed each produce an average of 12,083 kilos of milk per year.

HELPING INDIAN FARMERS

Israel is developing agricultural projects in India, helping farmers there adopt sustainable practices for greater food security.

The initiative, supported by the local government, will include an advanced research and development center, as well as agricultural experts working in villages and farms.

The objective of the initiative is to overcome various technological, agronomic and economic barriers the Indian farmers are dealing with, and to promote sustainable agriculture and food security.

RESEARCH INTO ANTI-AGEING AND INCREASED FERTILITY

Creams are being developed in Israel to make skin look younger and turn back the clock somewhat.

Researchers have also been busy working on a way to help boost fertility, allowing even older men and women to have the potential of having children.

Israel’s startups and Universities are leading the research against aging, and while it may be impossible to go back to teens or early 20s, there’s a chance that men and women can eventually age gracefully thanks to these breakthroughs.

CONCERT SELL-OUT

In another body blow to BDS Ringo Starr’s June concert in Israel is a sell out. The demand for tickets is so high that organisers have added another show.

At this rate LORDE need never bother to tour Israel as there are plenty of high class alternative performers willing and able to do so.

ANOTHER APARTHEID MYTH SHATTERED

This short video once again explodes the lie that Israel’s Arab citizens are not equal partners in the life of the country. As the evidence is never likely to be shown on a TV screen near you feel free to circulate it.
