New Zealand holds the same position as Australia in banning Hezbollah’s military wing whilst accepting its political presence.

The New Zealand Jewish Council has joined the Australian community in welcoming the UK’s decision to ban Hezbollah in its entirety.

Spokesperson Juliet Moses told J-Wire: “The New Zealand Jewish Council welcomes the decision by the UK Government to proscribe the Iranian–backed terrorist group Hezbollah in its entirety, rather than just its military wing. Hezbollah is unashamedly intent on genocide against the Jewish people, and is a destabilising force in the Middle East and more broadly. This decision is consistent with the approach taken by the United States and Canada, among other countries.

We hope that the New Zealand government follows suit and aligns with its traditional allies. In recent years, support for Hezbollah has been seen at protests on the streets of Auckland.  Hezbollah has carried out terrorist attacks against Jews around the world, and New Zealand Jews do not feel safe seeing support for it on our streets.“
