Sydney’s North Shore Temple Emanuel Board of Directors and Senior Rabbi Nicole Roberts have welcomed Rabbi Misha Clebaner as Rabbi and Director of the Meah Hebrew & Religion School program for Years K-6.

Rabbi Misha Clebaner

Rabbi Clebaner is a Rabbi-Educator, recently ordained at Hebrew College in Boston having completed not only a rabbinical program, but also additional studies to earn his Masters degree in Jewish Education.

Prior to entering rabbinical school, Rabbi Clebaner graduated from Emory University with a degree in Sociology and Religion.  He has served with AmeriCorps as well as the American Jewish World Service (AJWS) in India and has also studied at the Hebrew University and Conservative Yeshiva of Jerusalem.

Born in the Ukraine, Rabbi Clebaner migrated to the US as a child and is looking forward to making his home in Australia on Sydney’s north shore.

“In America, it is said that California is the land of exploration and new beginnings. I am eager and excited to bring the pioneering spirit from my roots in San Francisco and to continue my journey of exploration – both spiritual and of beautiful landscapes – to the land down under. I am humbled to be taking on the position of Rabbi and to be joining the incredible team at NSTE under the tutelage of Rabbi Nicole Roberts. I look forward to working with my Jewish colleagues across Sydney and to learn with and from my brothers and sisters of the clergy across religious faiths.”

In addition to his role as Director of the Hebrew School, Rabbi Clebaner will be supporting Senior Rabbi Nicole Roberts in serving the congregation’s lifecycle, pastoral care, adult education, worship, and other needs, while also particularly working with young families, teenagers and adults in their 20s and 30s.

He will hit the ground running as he leads NSTE’s Family High Holy Day services for tots and primary school children which will take place in the newly renovated Frank Wolf Community Hall on NSTE’s integrated campus on Chatswood Avenue. (Contact the office at NSTE for details.)

Rabbi Nicole Roberts said, “I am elated that Rabbi Clebaner and his partner, Anabelle Harari, will soon be joining our NSTE family.  Rabbi Misha brings not only a wealth of Jewish wisdom to bear on his work, but also an abundance of creativity, warmth, energy, and personability.  He is, above all, a mensch, and I am really looking forward to working together with him.”

“Many members of our community who met Rabbi Clebaner and Anabelle when they visited us earlier in the year commented how taken they were with them both and are looking forward to welcoming them into our community.  We look forward to introducing them to those they haven’t yet had the opportunity to meet over the High Holy Day period,” added NSTE President Gwen Harrison.
