New Zealand’s foreign minister has not confirmed Israel media reports that the ambassador is returning to his post in Wellington.

Gerry Brownlee

New Zealand’s Foreign Minister Gerry Brownlee told J-Wire: We’re aware of the reports that Israel is returning its ambassador to Senegal and we would welcome the return of Israel’s ambassador to New Zealand.

Discussions between officials are ongoing and we remain committed to restoring diplomatic relations with Israel.”

The Israeli ambassador was recalled to Jerusalem following New Zealand’s sponsorship of the United Nations resolution 2433 which called on a return to the indefensible June 1967 ceasefire lines and no right of access to Jerusalem’s religious sites.

Israel has restored its diplomatic with Senegal who also sponsored 2433 adopted in December, 2016.
