Government allocates $3.2 million for school security

The Federal Government has announced grants to Jewish schools to assist in crippling security costs.Recipients of the package include Sinai College [$340,000] in Brisbane;  Bialik College [$250,00], King David School [$250,000] and Yeshiva Beth Rivkah [$360,000] in Melbourne; Moriah College [$750,000], Kesser Torah College [$455,000], Mount Sinai College [$120,000], Masada College [$117,000] and Emanuel College [$54,000] in Sydney and Carmel College [$510,000] in Perth

The amounts were allocated following assessments made by State Government and representatives of ASIO and the Australian Federal Police.

Australian Jewish schools have been the targets of anti-Semitic attacks.

The grants were announced by the Minister of Home Affairs, Bob Debus, following a Government pledge to assist Jewish and Muslim schools beef up security.

The Minister said: “These measures will ensure that students can study in a safe and secure environment.”

The funding will be used to provide where necessary security fencing, glass protection, CCTV, alarm systems and security training.

This represents the first allocation in an election commitment to provide $20 million over four years.
