Maccabi Australia has marked several changes to the Maccabi Australia board, the most significant of which was the addition of three new board members in Julian Dunne, Daniel Parasol and Dean Rzechta.

In addition a number of existing members were re-elected at the recent AGM which has resulted in the new Board being well positioned to further develop the strategic direction set by current Chairman Barry Smorgon. Those reelected were Sydney Kahn Phillip Sheezel and Jeff Sher

After two years of valuable contribution to the board, Ian Sandler stood down from his position. In his time on the Maccabi Board Ian made a significant and valuable contribution to the organisation’s fund-raising efforts.

Barry Smorgon expressed his delight “that the organisation has attracted such a high-calibre of young talent in Julian, Daniel and Dean. He also paid tribute to the efforts and contribution that Ian made during his term”

Julian will be taking over the Maccabi marketing portfolio. He is a marketing professional with extensive experience in senior marketing roles. Julian is currently responsible for marketing and research at the AFL. “This is an area where Maccabi has been in search of genuine expertise and we look forward to the experience and talent Julian brings,” Smorgon noted.

Daniel is an investment advisor and partner at Evans and Partners. He also has a strong Maccabi history, with his appearance at the 1997 Maccabiah Games amongst his accomplishments. Daniel’s years of professional experience and community involvement, including his position on the Leibler Yavneh College Executive will undoubtedly add value to the Maccabi fundraising portfolio.

Dean is Managing Director of Property Development and Investment company, 94 Feet. He has a long Maccabi history and was recently inducted into the Maccabi Victoria Hall of Fame. Dean is committed in his contributions to the community and brings years of management, sporting and Maccabi experience to the core business of Maccabi Australia and will add value to the National Sport portfolio.

The complete Maccabi Australia board now consists of: Barry Smorgon (President), Sydney Kahn (Treasurer), Jeff Sher (Strategy), Mikki Silverman (International Sport), Lauren Ehrlich (Leadership), Philip Sheezel (Member Protection), Daniel Parasol (Fundraising), Dean Rzechta (National Sport), Julian Dunne (Marketing) Brian Swersky (President of Maccabi Victoria), Danny Hochberg (President Maccabi NSW), Joan Hillman (President Maccabi WA), Tom Goldman (Chair of Board of Governors).

Of this board, Smorgon noted “there is a great mixture of young talent and solid experience –  Maccabi Australia could not be better placed given the caliber of talent who volunteer their time and expertise for the betterment of Maccabi, the largest grassroots organisation in Australia.”
