KM Cares is an initiative that was established by Sydney’s Kehillat Masada to ensure that no member of their community should ever feel alone.

Founded by Rabbi and Rebbitzin Krebs, KM Cares was established to assist in co-ordinating and driving this concept forward and cementing its ongoing importance and operation as a core part of Kehillat Masada.

KM Cares has recently launched a new initiative to visit those members of the community who are ill in hospital for Shabbat. Volunteers visit the patients on a Friday morning delivering 2 mini challot, a small bottle of grape juice and a beautiful laminated Refuah Shleima card with the various brachot and words of comfort.  It is intended to extend this concept in the future to ill members at home as well.

Rabbi Krebs stated that “the initiative is a further extension of the caring and nurturing atmosphere we are so proud of at Kehillat Masada”.

To date KM Cares has been involved with the provision of meals to assist families in times of distress, assisting members who are experiencing financial difficulties, visiting community members in hospital, facilitating professional services such as medical help or trade services for people in need, the sourcing of furniture and appliances where required for the needy and lift schemes for the elderly for medical appointments.

Almost all of this has been provided pro bono to community members in need, by professionals and volunteers.

In 2011, a KM Cares Tzedakah Box campaign was successfully launched after distribution of a KM Cares Tzedakah Box and a laminated Shabbat Card with the various brachot to all Kehilla members. This year, the collection of the Tzedakah Boxes will take place during the first week of November.

In the forthcoming months, KM Cares will be working towards introducing a KM Cares Gift Certificate which members are able to utilise for different Simchas.
