New acts for Shir Madness
Melbourne will host Jewish music festival Shir Madness on September 6. New acts have just been announced.

Carina Lawrence
Telescopes are a grunge-based recording project featuring writer /producer Arik Blum (The Fabric, Sarah Rzek, Cash for Gold, Straythread One Giant Thing, Pablo Discobar), Mick Rankin (Strine Singers) and Danny Hill.
Heavily influenced by 90’s luminaries Sonic Youth, and Pavement, Telescopes present a sound that is immediately captivating; balancing rawness and honesty with unsettling, abrasive and discordant instrumentation. Replicating their immense palate of sounds from their critically acclaimed EP on stage, Telescopes’ live set is one not to be missed.
Alma Mater
ALMA MATER
Their passion for passionate music brought the members of Alma Mater together. Alma Mater are Yuliya Mik (voice), Tiago Brissos (6-string guitar) and Julian Scheffer (7-string guitar).
Alma Mater reawaken the voices of worlds gone by, bringing to life the traditions of Portuguese fado and Brazilian modinha. The music is fiery, gripping, tense, yet surprisingly delicate. With its rare combination of instruments, diverse influences and musical cultures, the group creates a fresh yet faithful sound.
LITTLE WISE
This Melbourne duo’s blend of folk-roots music is a delicate interplay of sweetness and grit. Little Wise comprises wistful storyteller and multi-instrumentalist Sophie Klein. Megan Bernard adorns Klein’s music with her lush guitar work and spot-on harmonies. The pair share a palpable musical chemistry, evoking The Waifs and James Taylor.

CARINA LAWRENCE aka CJ
Popular DJ around town, CJ’s talents saw her win the 2013 Victorian leg of the National Your Shot competition, where she beat over 6000 other DJ hopefuls to claim the main prize. With it, she won a much coveted set at Paradise Club Mykonos, ranked as one of the top 20 night clubs in the world – word on the streets of Mykonos was that CJ absolutely blew them away. CJ plays at clubs around Melbourne and is well know in the Melbourne community.
