Mr O’Farrell said journalists and media professionals serving the State’s ethnic communities should consider submitting their work for consideration.

“Multicultural media plays a powerful role in our society today and the NSW Government appreciates the contribution it makes in making NSW unique, while supporting our democracy and State economy.
“Journalists, photographers, editors and publishers are encouraged to apply for 12 categories and all entries will be evaluated by a panel of independent professionals.

“The inaugural Premier’s Multicultural Media Awards presentation was held earlier this year when the State’s top ethnic media professionals were honoured across print, broadcast and new media categories,” Mr O’Farrell said.

Mr Dominello said the 2014 Premier’s Multicultural Media Awards include a new category, Young Journalist of the Year.

“The winner of this category will be able to demonstrate the fundamental principles of journalism, excellent writing skills and the ability to produce work that pushes the boundaries,” he said.

“It’s hoped this new award will inspire young people to look seriously at considering the multicultural community media as a career option,” Mr Dominello said.

Nominations close at 5pm on Friday 15 November 2013, with the winners to be announced at a gala dinner at Doltone House, Hyde Park on 13 February 2014.
