The event was attended by over 100 current and future leaders from existing, new and emerging communities.

Community members and leaders from the Jewish, African, Chinese, Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Baha’i and Kurdish communities gathered together at the Beth Weizmann Community Centre to participate in a powerful demonstration of positive diversity.

The Leadership Conference was opened by the Hon Robin Scott, Minister for Multicultural Affairs and JCCV President, Jennifer Huppert.

Speakers at the conference included Professor Leon Mann, Director of the Leadership Research Unit in the University of Melbourne, Nina Bassat, Past President of JCCV, Joey Borensztajn, Partner Arnold Bloch Leibler, Hakan Akyol, Director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs & Citizenship, Mary Scott, General Manager People & Culture at Jewish Care and Organisational Development Consultant Jonathan Schauder.

Minister Scott stated, “You couldn’t find a community more committed to the values of multiculturalism and with good, strong leadership than the Jewish community.”

Participants included professional staff, board members and volunteers from nearly 40 Jewish community organisations, many of whom do not usually have access to professional training.  This included Synagogues, youth and student organisations, welfare organisations, museums and other community groups from all streams of Judaism.

Ms Huppert stated, “It was wonderful to present this opportunity for training and development, not only to our own community organisations, but to a wide range of communities from across Victoria.”

Ms Huppert thanked the Victorian Multicultural Commission for their financial support of the JCCV Community Leadership Conference.

The second day of the conference will focus on Governance for Non-Profit Organisations and will be held on Wednesday 12 August.
