Jewish folk songs are to take on a new and exciting form as singer-songwriter cousins Husky Gawenda and Gideon Presiss prepare a unique one-off performance with their young sister and cousin, Evie Gawenda for the Mullum Music Festival.

Gideon Pressis commented “All three cousins will be presenting a European folk show at the festival, with the European songs that we grew up with as kids,”

“They are all Jewish folk songs. We haven’t told anyone about it yet.”

The artists called on their parents and grandparents help who shared these folk songs with the children from a very young age. The grandparents left Poland after the Second World War to settle in Australia.

“It should be really beautiful I think. (Their parents) have been very helpful. We could not have done it without our parents and grandparents. They know all of the songs, that’s how we learned them.”

“This will be the most organised show of this type that we have ever done,” Pressis said.

The band are truly very excited to be performing at Mullum Music Festival this year and feel a special affinity for the town of Mullumbimby.

“We absolutely love Mullum. We have a nice history there. We have played a number of times over the years and it’s an amazing part of the world,” Gideon said.

With an exciting line-up of Melbourne artists playing at Mullum Musical Festival this year the cousins are guaranteed to have an amazing time while sharing a very special part of Jewish culture through the universal medium of music.

>>Husky will be peforming at the Mullumbimby Civic Hall on Sunday, November 20, from 7.30pm. Details at www.mullumusicfestival.com.
