Moriah student wins Bible Quiz

The Australian Bible Quiz part of a global project which brings together students from across the world, has been won by Rivka Hirschowitz a student at Sydney’s Moriah College.

The Australian contestants are selected through the National Bible Quiz, organised by the Zionist Federation of Australia, and held at Melbourne’s Beth Weizmann last month.

There was strong competition amongst the finalists; Rivka Hirschowitz from Moriah College, Akiva Kaltmann from Mount Scopus Memorial College and Doron Lewin from Masada College with top honours going to was Rivka Hirschowitz and runner-up Akiva Kaltmann.

Rivka won a ticket to Israel and a place on this year’s Tanach camp with  runner-up Akiva Kaltmann also gaining a place on the camp and quiz. They will now have the opportunity to participate in  the world final of the Chidon Tanach.

Rivka Malka Hirschowitz said: – “I am very excited to continue learning the Tanach and to have the opportunity to go to Israel for the very first time and see all the places in Israel that I have been learning in Tanach, this for me was a lifetime dream. This is also a great opportunity for me to connect to my land, my people and my heritage. I would like to thank Hashem and the Zionist Federation of Australia for giving me the honour and privilege to represent Australia in the holy land of Israel.”

Contestants enter The International Bible Quiz (chidon tanach) which is held in Israel. It is an opportunity for students from all over the world to compete on their knowledge of 400 pages of the Tanach. The winner receives a scholarship to Machon Lev, the Jerusalem College of Technology. The quiz is run by the Education Department of the Israel Defence Force.

Akiva Kaltmann says: – “I really enjoyed learning so much Torah and I’m excited as the next round of the competition in Israel.”

Prior to the commencement of the quiz in Israel, the students will enjoy a Tanach Camp with other participants from all over the world participating in tours through Israel and meeting people from Israel and all over the world.
