Travellers whose passports bear an Israeli stamp will be permitted to enter Dubai according to a Qantas response to a letter of concern written to them by The Executive Council of Australian Jewry…but Israelis appeared to be restricted to transiting only.

Qantas have also assured the ECAJ that their new partner airline Emirates will offer Kosher meals. In their response to the ECAJ, Qantas have stated that Israeli passport holders “can purchase tickets on Emirates flights and transit Dubai without needing a visa”.

The Australian national carrier has also announced that it will be continuing its services to Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok offering connections world-wide and to Israel through Bangkok and Hong Kong.

Peter Wertheim

The airline wrote stating: “It is always made clear to customers at the point of booking whether they will be traveling on an Emirates or a Qantas operated aircraft.

Executive Director of The Executive Council of Australian Jewry Peter Wertheim said: “The reply from Qantas contains some important and welcome clarifying information.  It seems to suggest that Australian travellers who have Israeli travel stamps in their passports and whose transit time in Dubai may be extended unexpectedly beyond 24 hours due to a delayed connecting flight will be allowed to enter Dubai.  However, the question is not addressed in specific terms and ought to be put beyond doubt by a definitive statement from the UAE government.  Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs should also issue a statement confirming that the assurances given by Qantas about the status of Australian travellers in the UAE can be relied on by its customers.”

Why would an airline place their passenger in a risky situation? Australians could face jail for kissing in public, holding hands, staring at a woman (man), reporting rape (woman). In addition, there is discrimination against persons holding an Israeli passport. Qantas, this adds up to your grounding of planes, with complete disregard for your passengers. You lost me!! I will never fly Qantas again until there is a change of directors, more consideration for passengers, and the Aussie carrier makes deal with democratic societies, instead of entering in partnership with abusive and dictatorial regimes and communities. Bye Qantas.

There is something wrong here in regards not being permitted to go to Dubai if you are Jewish.

My brother was there for two weeks on business, not long ago and he has several Israeli stamps in his passport.

The de-salination plants in Dubai, as in most of the ME/Arab States, use many Israeli parts, including the most essential. The ‘reverse osmosis membrane’, as most here do too.

Shirlee, love, the text of this story tells that precisely what you are saying, that there is NO problem with the Dubai stop-over if you have Israel visa on your passport, so have another storm in a cuppa tea, but NOT on Yom Kipur !!!!!!

Lynne is all ok UAE and Emirates Airlines[ One in the same] only don’t allow Israeli Jews into their country,
What part of that don’t you under stand ?

    • Lynne Newington says:

Unfortunately there’s a lot more to the Dubai situation so I have just learned Michael, do you understand or did you know?
Bad news from Dubai, today’s entry.

  4. gabrielle says:

I would not trust that arrangement. Just imagine being stuck in Dubai for some reason.

All the best to Qantas, I’ll never fly with them again.

  5. pam says:

Why would any self-respecting person, whether Jewish or not, want to set foot in such a racist
    place as Dubai?

Anyone who is genuinely opposed to racism and anti-Semitism would never travel there.
Anyone who opposes slavery would never travel there.
Anyone who believes women have equal rights would never travel there.

  6. Otto Waldmann says:

So, what is the pending question, except for:

” Is it true that Qantas now serve on board cups of tea brand “Storm” !?

  7. Lynne Newington says:

    This is terrible.
Am I to understand you don’t fell secure to enter Dubai or is it the Emirates Airlines that’s the concern.
Email me off line if you like.

  8. Rita says:

I certainly will not fly the emirate version of the so-called national Australian Carrier. Have a look at what other National Icons the “Emirates” have colonised, eg what do we call the Melbourne Cup these days? What could one call this if not neo-colonisation? It’s getting as bad as in France and a few other dhimmy European countries.

The Executive Director of The Executive Council of Australian Jewry Peter Wertheim saying: “The reply from Qantas contains some important and welcome clarifying information”… sounds like a grateful acceptance of crumbs.

    I fly Singapore Airlines.

  9. Michael says:

What does it say about Qantas Directors moral compass, would they go to bed with another airline that say discriminated against Arabs , Muslims or Palestinian, Syrian etc Passports I very much doubt it.
They know Jews won’t riot in the streets or make threats or intimidate the Airline decision makers , thats the difference.
