This year’s Spirit of Volunteering address was delivered by William Nemesh,   Jewish Community Relationship Manager of the New South Wales Jewish Board of Deputies. Mr Nemesh spoke on The importance of building a community through volunteering.  He stressed there can be no greater selfless act; and that volunteering is not only enriching and fun, but is often the glue that holds a community together and makes it a better place.

“I believe that acts of volunteering create certainty, certainty of compassion, certainty of empathy and certainty for making a small sacrifice for the betterment of fellow humans. This invariably leads to vibrant and stronger communities – communities that come together and help one another, not because of material benefits, but because we belong and we want to be part of something greater than ourselves. Montefiore Home is an example of such a community,” said Mr Nemesh.

“Montefiore’s volunteering community has a strong foundation,” said Hazel Stein, Montefiore’s Volunteer Manager. “Today we are recognising each and every one of our valued volunteers for enhancing the wellbeing of our residents. It’s the small pieces that make the big picture. The big picture is our Montefiore community and all the pieces fit when we work together,” added Ms Stein.

The function was attended by Board Members, volunteers, residents and staff .

Volunteers with continuous service to Montefiore Home were also recognised with their Spirit of Volunteering 2016 service award badges and certificates of appreciation.
