This year’s theme, Celebrate the Power of Volunteering, was an opportunity for Montefiore to recognise and thank its strong army of volunteers for the work they do and the difference they make to its elderly residents and to the broader community.  Key speakers at this year’s program included:

  • Olga Horak – My experience as a Volunteer at the Sydney Jewish Museum,
  • Dr Joachim Schneeweiss  – What Volunteering at Montefiore means to me, and
  • Esther Wakerman – What Montefiore Means to the Community

The program also included a guided tour for volunteers to the Sydney Jewish Museum.  “Approximately 30 per cent of our residents are Jewish Holocaust survivors with unique and complex care needs.  Montefiore has developed an innovative Holocaust Awareness program for staff and volunteers to help them understand and address these needs,” said Hazel Stein, Volunteer Manager at Montefiore Home.

“Montefiore has a proud history of volunteering.  We have over 500 active volunteers who are committed, dependable and enthusiastic.  Our volunteers are a valuable asset and enable us to enhance the quality of life of our ageing residents by augmenting the professional services and programs we provide,” said Ms Stein.

“We invest considerable resources and planning into our programs and activities to ensure our volunteers have a meaningful experience at Montefiore”, added Melanie Lindenberg, Director of Client and Community Relations.

Volunteers with 7 to 14 years continuous service to Montefiore Home were also recognised with certificates of appreciation awarded by President, David Freeman.
