The Beth Din hearing in London dealing with Sydney’s Mizrachi Synagogue conflict is over.J-Wire spoke to Mark Schneider, President of the Mizrachi Synagogue whose spiritual head, Rabbi Moshe Gutnick, is contesting a move to make him redundant.

Schneider said: “The hearing was run very smoothly and very professionally. Now the evidence submitted is being considered by the judges and it could take more than two weeks before we have judgement. But I cannot complain about the way the matter was dealt with here in London.”

The synagogue maintains it can no longer afford the services of Rabbi Gutnick who has been the congregations spiritual leader for over 21 years. He is fighting moves to make him redundant. The dispute is being heard by a zabla…a mechanism in which each side appoints a rabbi to plead their case before a suitable Beth Din and the two rabbis appoint a third rabbi who is mutually acceptable.
