J-Wire presents on video Michael Wrublewski’s speech at his tribute at the Carriageworks in Sydney’s Redfern on Saturday night.  Hit read more to view…Almost 600 people witnessed the tributes to the former President of NSW Maccabi and former member of Maccabi World Union who was served on the organising committee for the 2000 Sydney Olympics. The former boss of the Sydney Kings made basketball a household word throughout Australia.

He has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and has been given no more than six months to live. Wrublewski got his start in basketball through NSW Maccabi. During the course of the evening, Michael America, the current President of NSW Maccabi Basketball, announced that Wrublewski had been named the Club’s patron in perpetuity.

Wrublewski’s son Adam announced the launch of the Michael Wrublewski foundation…a fund established to help kids in sport.

In his 35-minute speech, Wrublewski speaks articulately without notes of how he is not afraid of dying, how he refuses to accept the prognosis and of his love of family and his sport. He gives advice to the incumbent head of basketball in Australia and does not mince his words. A remarkable evening with Wrublewski’s speech recorded for you in full by J-Wire.

Before he spoke the mouth, Rodney O, the  commentator who called the Kings’ games described Wrublewski as “the most loved, loud-mouthed pain in the arse guy that ever knew what he was doing”.
