2014 is an exciting year for Melton with classes in Sydney starting at the end of February and the beginning of March.

Three new teachers are joining our faculty and classes are being offered at additional locations.  In addition we are introducing new Scholar Courses:  Kabbalah and Mysticism: Secret Knowledge in Judaism as well as The Holocaust as Reflected in Memoirs and Diaries.

AJN-ad-semester-3001-final-final-copyThe Florence Melton School of Adult Jewish Learning, with its world-class curriculum developed and tested by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, is an international education network of schools in 50 locations. Melton informs and inspires adult learners form all knowledge-levels and backgrounds and sets the standard for high-quality, text-based, interactive Jewish study. Sydneysiders are encouraged to take the opportunity to embark on the Melton journey as it is the ideal forum for people to continue their Jewish learning in an inclusive and non- threatening environment.  Melton prides itself with its slogan ‘No Homework, No Marks, Know Judaism’. However, should people wish to further their learning, extensive reading lists are provided. The format of the course has become more user-friendly with Melton now being offered in 10-15 week blocks in various locations around Sydney. Melton will be held for the first time at Cremorne Synagogue and again at Montefiore Home Randwick and we are thrilled to be taking our courses to these new venues.

We welcome back our outstanding and highly experienced Melton educators Dr Michael Abrahams-Sprod, Dr Avril Alba, Rebbetzin Esty Gutnick and Aviva Winton.  Avril Alba, Roth Lecturer in Holocaust Studies and Jewish Civilisation at the University of Sydney and former Education Director at the Sydney Jewish Museum will be teaching the Scholars Course The Holocaust as Reflected in Memoirs and Diaries at the Montefiore Home, Randwick on Wednesday evenings. It is the first time this 10 week course will be offered in Sydney and we encourage previous Melton students to take this opportunity to return to their Melton learning.

We are delighted to welcome three new educators to our faculty. Rabbi Dr Orna Triguboff will teach the 10 week Scholars Course Kabbalah and  Mysticism: Secret Knowledge in Judaism at Beth WIZO on Tuesday evenings . This is the newest course to be developed by Melton and Sydney has the privilege of being one of the first Melton schools to launch it.  Rabbi Zalman Kastel and Lior Misrachi will be teaching Rhythms and Purposes of Jewish Living at North Shore Synagogue on Tuesday evenings. Dramas will be taught on Thursday evenings at Cremorne Synagogue by Michael Abrahams-Sprod and guest lecturers.

Rhythms and Purposes of Jewish Living, taught by Esty Gutnick and Aviva Winton, will be offered at Beth WIZO on Thursday mornings.

Sydney is not the only place in Australia embracing the Florence Melton Adult Jewish Learning courses. I, myself, was a Melton student in Melbourne for three years some time back, which included participating in a two week on-site education program in Israel. How about listing at the end of the article details of Melbourne offerings, and others, or at least contact details in relation to them?
