Limmud Oz is Australia’s leading festival of Jewish learning, culture and community and is held in Melbourne over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend every two years. 

Mandi Katz and Annette Charak are co-chairing Limmud Oz 2014 and have called on the community to again take part in large numbers.

“We want to encourage people who have something interesting to say to come to Limmud, particularly those who have never presented before,” Ms Katz said.

“The beauty of Limmud is that it is really grassroots. The community sets the agenda and the sessions are mainly given by presenters who choose to get involved.”

Among the international speakers who have been already confirmed for Limmud Oz include rabbi and ethicist Naftali Brawer, writer and political pundit Peter Beinart, Yiddish literature expert Professor Anita Norich and senior Jerusalem Post journalist Gil Hoffman.

They will be complemented by some of Australia’s leading Jewish thinkers and performers.

Another key aspect of Limmud Oz is volunteering and registrations are now open for those who want to help in the lead up and during the event in areas such as transport, food sales, registrations and hospitality.

“We really want Limmud Oz to be accessible to all, so there will again be a much reduced admission price for those who are able to give us a few hours of their time,” Ms Katz added. “It is a great way to get involved and meet people.”

This year’s event will start on the evening of Saturday, June 7.
