Avi Gilboa is a Board Member of the Melbourne Jewish Charity Fund, which has for over 50 years worked to address poverty as a grass-roots volunteer-run organization. He talks with Henry Greener.

MJCF aims to reduce homelessness, vulnerability and restore dignity into people’s lives by working directly with those in need, to improve life opportunities.
MJCF provides clients access to social-worker/counselling, addiction recovery programs, camp scholarships, material aid, shelter, health care, medicine, food and clothing, financial-planning, mobility services, referrals and practical support. It is the largest provider of welfare support in the Melbourne Jewish Community, giving Assistance every year of over $1.5 Million, with over 95% of donor monies going to assist over 350 families annually. We discuss the concept of “Tzedakah”, the Hebrew word for Charity or Giving, one of the Mitzvot or good deeds in the Torah.
