March of the Living Australia has announced details of the Adult delegation to March of the Living 2013.

March of the Living is an international, educational program that brings individuals from all over the world to Poland on Holocaust Memorial Day, to march from Auschwitz to Birkenau, the largest concentration camp complex built during World War II.  The group will then travel to Israel to observe Israel Memorial Day and Independence Day celebrations. March of the Living Australia has successfully made the Year 11 Jewish Student program almost a rite of passage, sending over 1000 students and close to 200 educators, survivors, madrichim and support staff on the Program so far.

This cohesive initiative,  planned for the Bat/Bar-Mitzvah year of March of the Living Australia, is a milestone achievement as a ‘coming of age’ for the organisation and for the programs it offers. Recognising the synergies that can be gained by bringing these two programs under one roof, not only recognises the outstanding work done with the Students and Adult programs but also recognises the strength and uniqueness of the programs in general. The potential is there to do even more and to make the Adult program a truly national program like its sister Program for Year 11 students, and possibly to expand the work of March of the Living Australia to other sectors and communities as well.

March of the Living 2013 will be distinguished by the following special themes:

• “Remembering the Children” – Among the six million Jews murdered by the Nazis, over one million of the victims were Jewish children. On the 2013 March, over 500 child survivors are expected to participate and will be given special recognition during the trip.

• 70th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising – The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, which took place from April 19th to May 16th 1943, was one of the most significant examples of Jewish resistance against the Nazis. 2013 will mark the 70th anniversary and the March of the Living plans to honor the acts of physical and spiritual bravery committed by many Jews during those dark times.

• 65th anniversary of the State of Israel – The State of Israel was established on May 14, 1948. This year marks its jubilant 65th anniversary.

• 25th anniversary year of the March of the Living – The March of the Living will continue to celebrate its 25th anniversary year of bringing Jewish and non Jewish youth and adults to Poland.
