Importation of pets from Israel into Australia will be easier in 2014 thanks to a 20 day reduction of the quarantine period announced by the Federal Government.

Currently a minimum of 30 days quarantine is imposed on all pets joining families who have moved from Israel to Australia. Six months ago a total ban on family pets created by a rabies scare was lifted by both the Australian and New Zealand governments.

However, relocated Israelis have had to wait over a month to reunite with their domestic animals…and incur the costs of the quarantine period. Those costs will now be substantially reduced given the shorter quarantine period.

Dr.Eytan Kreiner, CEO at Israel’s Terminal4Pets told J-Wire: “We are very excited to deliver the good news to all pet lovers out there with hopes and plans to relocate to Australia with their pets. The new regulations will make your journey to Australia significantly less complicated for both you and your pet. With that said, please take note to the fact that while the quarantine period was reduced, the preparation period was extended accordingly.”

Dr Kreiner said that the process of importing pets into Australia according to the new regulations will require a thorough preparation period of at least 6-7 months in advance. Also, there will be slight changes in the instructions relevant to treatments, vaccinations, Rabies blood testing, health permits and import permits. The time-tables for each step now requires adjustment.

The new regulations come into play on February 3, 2014.
