The Australasian Union of Jewish Students has appointed  Rachel Flitman to lead its 2012/13 Leadership Development Program (LDP) – AUJS’s flagship international program.

Rachel Flitman

Flitman has been involved in AUJS for several years and has left a legacy of high quality student development initiatives from her time as an active AUJS leader and student on campus.

Flitman was the AUJS National Development Officer in 2010 and, at the end of 2011, was selected as a madricha for AUJS Academy. She has been a Senior Adviser at the Embassy of Israel in Canberra since 2011.
Recent LDP madrichim have included former AUJS National Vice Chairperson and current AIJAC policy analyst, Daniel Meyerowitz-Katz; Eli Massel, educator at the Sydney Jewish Museum; Brandon Srot, former AUJS Executive Director and currentDirector of Young Adults at the Shalom Institute; and Gary Samowitz, Executive Director of Jewish Aid Australia.
“We are very excited to have Rachel on board for LDP,” said AUJS Chairperson Daniel Nash. “She is a shining example of an AUJS student leader who has begun to achieve incredible things for Israel and for our Australian Jewish community in her adult life. LDP is now Rachel’s own opportunity to cultivate committed and conscientious leaders for the future of our community.”
“It is a privilege to have been given the tremendous responsibility and great opportunity to guide a group of engaged, inquisitive young adults through what will be a rigorous, challenging and stimulating experience over the summer,” said Flitman.
LDP will take a select group of AUJS student leaders to the United States, Israel and a Diaspora Jewish community in December 2012. The program has fostered generations of Australian Jewish community leadership. LDP successfully instils in its participants – from youth – the value of life involvement in the Jewish community and in our community’s vibrant organisations.
