Rabbi Meir Shlomo Kluwgant is the plaintiff in a defamation action against Philip Weinberg filed in Victoria’s Supreme Court last month.

The Herald Sun has reported that Weinberg allegedly defamed the rabbi during phone calls to the secretary of the Adass Yisroel secretary Avraham Weiszberger.

The story so far:

Rabbi Kluwgant appeared before the Royal Commission into the Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse where he gave testimony into the case files appertaining to the Yeshivah College.

There was no suggestion that Rabbi Kluwgant was an abuser.

The school appointed Rabbi Kluwgant as the principal of the school some time later. Before his started his employment, Rabbi Kluwgant alleges that Phillip Weinberg whom the Herald Sun “acted as spokesman for the victims”.

It reports that Weinberg told Weiszberger that Kluwgant was “the scum of the earth”  and that he should be sacked from the school. He in fact resigned from the school in August 2016.

The Herald Sun has not been able to contact Mr Weinberg and that he had as yet to file a defence.

Rabbi Kluwgant is suing for aggravated damages and loss of income.

Rabbi Kluwgant told J-Wire he has no comment to make at this stage.
