A brand new congregation has been granted a six-month lease to the building which housed the South Head Synagogue which is in liquidation.

Kehillat Kadima will open its doors to members of the community tomorrow evening for Shabbat service. The building is under management on behalf of the secured creditors.

Heading the new congregation will be board members Joshua Bolot, Shimi Friedgut, Roger Kaye and Neill Miller. The blossoming Kehillat Kadima has employed some members of the now defunct South Head Synagogue staff  including Rabbi Yehoshua Niassoff who had been the chazan at South Head.

Joshua Bolot told J-Wire: “The new congregation welcomes new members and it has confirmed that members who had seats on Old South Head will still retain them in the new congregation. Our immediate plans is to generate positive energy in our new Kehillat Kadima community”

An Israeli choir which had contracted for the High Holidays are confirmed as making the trip from Petah Tikveh to Kehillat Kadima. Joshua Bolot added: “The chazzan has been rehearsing with the choir on the Internet”.

Following usual Shabbat services, Kehillat Kadima will operate daily minyans from Sunday morning.

J-Wire understands that all debts owed to the former South Head congregation remain payable. Likewise, any rentals paid in advance to South Head will be credited to to members of the new entity.

There will be no Shabbat services in the Dover Minyan.

    Chillul Hashem.

As a fully paid up member of South Head Synagogue, I want no part of this new organization. I’ve not received any “official” notification. Who can send it? There was never a formal Extraordinary General Meeting. Every aspect of the saga has been illegitimate – in Jewish law and I suspect, Australian. I also realise that there is no going back. My wife and I have joined another synagogue and with extreme sadness are severing our connection of 32 happy and fulfilling years with the Shul and Rabbi Milecki.

Michael don’t be hasty. This new kehilla only has a lease for six months.

What you urgently need is a decision by The Israeli Beth Din to get a mutually beneficial solution to this vexed affair. After that all will hopefully return to normal.

As they say in The Gemorah ” Gum Zu Le Tovah “

….Ruling still stands, there is no corporate veil in Cholocho (Jewish Law). The Secured creditors still stand with a debt of some $1.5m. Accumulated debts (unsecured?) of about $1m.

What will be the result of the Additional Cost of Administration and “wrongful dismissal” ?

And most certainly the Liquidator Stands & is in Charge and no doubt he also CHARGES for his “Service”
How will this complex situation be resolved? Only G-d knows.

I pray that Sanity & Common Sense will prevail.

Whenever a any Group of Jews gather in Unity (“New” or old); it can only be Good & Congratulations are in Order. Mazal Tov!

It is also very pleasing to see the “South Head Shule” Gates UNCHAINED

Nonetheless, as I understand, the Contract still stands; the Supreme Court Judgement/ Order still stands; the Beth Din Order

    Pls forward updates when required

  5. Harold Blesovsky says:

This may only be a temporary reprieve for the community because I am sure that Rabbi Milecki will institute legal proceedings against the old Shul.
Such proceedings will probably be held at a Beth Din in Israel and this saga is far from over.
In the meantime we wish the new community hatslacha rabah.
