Rachael Kohn talks to two rabbis, one orthodox and the other progressive, on how Judaism welcomes members of the LGBTI community.

Rabbi Yaakov Glasman

Orthodox Rabbi Yaakov Glasman, of St Kilda Synagogue, argues that LGBTI Jews are no less loved in the eyes of God, but are victims of a far deeper social stigma that owes little to what brand of Judaism they belong to.

Rabbi Fred Morgan

Rabbi Fred Morgan, former senior rabbi of Temple Beth Israel Progressive Jewish Congregation in Melbourne, explains its attitude to LGBTI Jews, which includes commitment ceremonies. He also discusses the ‘black list’ recently circulated from the Chief Rabbinate of Israel.

Includes stand up comedians: Lisa Geduldig and Mal Z Lawrence.

The program will be broadcast on ABC Radio National’s Spirit of Things on Sunday August 6 at 6:00pm.

In the debate over all issues it is important that differences in opinion, even strong differences in opinion should not lead to personal animosity and aggressive vindictive attacks.
There are different responses to this issue which will not be bridged neverthess we must stay civil.

  2. Michael Barnett says:

All people deserve to be treated with equal dignity and respect.

No group of people are more privileged or worthy of greater rights than any other group of people.
