FirstCall, Sydney’s Jewish Care telephone infoline, has extended its operating hours.

President Eva Fischl told J-Wire: “This new initiative recognises that in today’s world it is not always possible to make personal calls during traditional business hours.”

Its FirstCall line will now operate  during the extended hours of 7:30 a.m to 10 p.m., seven days a week.

JewishCare has confirmed that the economic turndown has taken its toll on the community, exacerbating the stress experienced by people caused through work and personal relationships. This has significantly increased the workload on the organisation. Fischl added: “This initiative reflects the response JewishCare has actioned to changing community needs.”

JewishCare has extensive professional staff and hundreds of dedicated volunteers who allow the organisation to be able to provide comprehensive help, including aiding the elderly who want to stay in their own homes, victims of domestic violence and those who suffering from physical disabilites which preclude them from living a normal life.
