The Young Jewish Leadership of Melbourne (YJLM) is the brainchild of Gaby and Ilana Silver, who recently moved back to Australia after living overseas since 2003.

In 2009, while living in San Diego they launched a highly successful organisation called The Young Jewish Leadership of Universty City (YJLUC), where they created innovative, cool and out of the box speaker based events for the 20’s and 30’s for Jews from all over California and the surrounding States.

“At first we were worried that no one would attend,” explained Ilana, who had been working on these types of events in Manhattan since 2003, “But then our first dinner sold out, and then our next event oversold, and the rest is history.”

Gaby and Ilana decided a year after they returned from Melbourne that the time was right to relocate their US-based organisation to Melbourne, to create Jewish young adults speaker-based events, at amazing venues around Melbourne, and thus was born The YJLM.

December 11th is their first Melbourne-based event, which is in collaboration with Young JBD, the young adult division of Jews of the CBD. The event is called “Cocktails In The City” and will be held at the prestigious CBD venue “The Spice Market.”

For this event they have secured the highly successful Executive Chairman of “sass and bide”, David Briskin, who will discuss his journey as a young Jew starting a small business and turning it into a fashion empire; an inspirational story of hard work and determination.

“Our strategy is to tailor events to this demographic with inspirational, high profile speakers. We have an amazing series of events planned for 2014 and international speakers at amazing venues around Melbourne.”
