The Victorian Jewish community supports the struggle for democracy and freedom in the autocracies of Egypt and the larger Middle East.

President of The Jewish Community Council of Victoria John Searle added: “We also admire the courage and resolve of those who wish to bring about democratic reform by peaceful means and pray that this leads to full individual freedoms including fair and free elections; an unfettered media; an end to religious fanaticism; freedom of worship for members of all faiths; peace between all peoples in this region and around the world; gender equality; and the other constituents of free and democratic societies. We join other faiths in mourning those who have been killed, injured and imprisoned in fighting for this historical and worthy cause.”

The recalling of the Ambassador to the Vatican is proof enough that Egypt wanted no cause for any anti-religious clashes in the initial protests, keepimg themselves focused soley on the cause for democracy and freedom.
